Mount Moses (Mount Sinai) is a mountain in the middle of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, about 230 km from Sharm El Sheikh, and is named after the Prophet Moses. Mount Moses is 2285 meters high. It is considered a holy place for all heavenly religions.
Mount Sinai is mentioned several times in almost all heavenly books. According to Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions, Mount Sinai was the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments.
The trip is also an opportunity to visit one of the oldest churches in the Middle East (St. Catherine's Monastery)
Tour Program
We will pick you up from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh at 20:00 by a modern air-conditioned car to drive to St. Catherine's area which takes about 3 hours including a "15 minutes" break.
Our tour guide will take you on a tour around the mountain and then start climbing the mountain around midnight.
The most popular trek in St Catherine is the climb to Mount Sinai, you should be reasonably fit and prepared as the trek is strenuous but very spiritual and well worth the experience, we will provide you with a flashlight, we also recommend comfortable walking shoes, some warm clothing will be needed when you reach the summit. In winter, you will need plenty of warm clothing.
You can walk two-thirds of the way up the mountain on camel back, but the last third must be walked (700 steps)
You can rent blankets at the summit to protect yourself from the cold and enjoy the stunning views. There are also some tea and snack stops along the way. "Optional"
Once you reach the summit, you are now at one of the highest points in Egypt at 2285 metres above sea level to enjoy stunning views of the sunrise over the surrounding mountains. You stand where the great prophet stood
St Catherine's Monastery
Descent from the mountain. We will head to St Catherine's Monastery, a Greek Orthodox monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest functioning Christian monastery in the world.
It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in South Sinai, built around 550 AD, which contains the famous Moses Bush as well as the Greek Orthodox Monastery and a large collection of historical artifacts, icons and manuscripts.
The monastery has strict opening and closing times, which are from 8:45 am to 11:45 am (closed on Fridays, Sundays and during Coptic religious holidays)
